The NI Boxer from Tigers Bay in Belfast, Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton, has won the WBO Interim Featherweight Championship Title after beating opponent Nonito Donaire in points after 12 rounds with all judges scoring the fight 117 – 111 in favour to Frampton.
The boxer was fighting on home turn at the SSE arena in Belfast to a sell out crowd including friend and golfing pro Rory McIlroy.
Framptons promoter, Frank Warren, at the weigh in the Europa hotel in Belfast on Friday had told media that if Frampton won this fight that he would ‘promise’ him a Winsor Park fight this summer which would see a crowd that would dwarf that of this fight.
The Mexico’s WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez will now be required to defend his title against Frampton but as of yet it is not sure that fight will be the one held at Winsor Park in the summer.
