111th Ballymoney Show 2018. What you need to know!

With the abundance of great weather recently, the North Antrim Agricultural Association will be hoping for more of the same on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd June as they host the 2018 Ballymoney Show.The Ballymoney show has existed since 1902. 116 years and 111th show later, despite a few changes and additions over the years, it still remains popular with all ages. The 2 days of the Ballymoney Show begins on the Friday from 2.30pm when gates open to the public.

Here’s what you can expect from this years show…

FRIDAY

2.30pm

No sooner than the gates open, the competitions begin beginning with both Local & Open Pony ridden classes. The entries will be taken from 2.30pm on the field with the main action from 3pm. It doesn’t end their for equestion lovers with the North West Working Hunter Pony & Horse competitions at 4pm and 5pm. Entries will also be taken for these on the field.

6pm

It wouldn’t be the Ballymoney Show without the ever popular Pet Show. Open to any pet all entries are free. For the more competitive dog owners there is also the Companion Dog Show from 6.30pm which will be held under Kennel Club rules with classes to include Novelty, Pedigree & Obedience.

If pets ain’t your thing, Ballymoney High School choir will be preforming.

7pm

N.I. YFC Football competition will once again be staged at this years show with up to 40 teams taking part over three sections. Girls open, over 18 boys & under 18 boys.

Also at 7pm the schools fancy dress competition with this years theme of  ‘SuperHeros’, a chance for the children to come dressed up with prizes to be won

7.30pm

Now the show can’t promise you Gordon Ramsey but never the less there is some great cookery demo’s planned led by fantastic chefs

9pm

To conclude the Friday evening, the popular and highly competitive Tug-O-War takes place.

A full evening of entertainment will commence on the Friday from 5pm provided by CJ Entertainment.

Saturday

Gates open early on Saturday with a large range of great activities all day which will include the craft marquee, the small animals tent for your chance to get up close with small animals, the home industries and schools sections open after judging and the food court plus much more to keep everyone entertained. Enjoy musical entertainment all day from CJ Entertainment. Plus MUCH, MUCH MORE!

10am

This starts the serious judging of all classes throughout the Ballymoney Show. These will include cattle, sheet, goats, poultry, horses & ponies.

10.30am

The first of this years junior home cooks heats takes place.

11am

Got a child between the ages of birth to 4 years, then this years your child could be one of the luck ones to win a prize in this years Bonnie Baby competition. Entries must be registered 30 minutes beforehand.

12pm

On the music stage young country singer Own Mac will be treating the crowd o a selection of country songs.

At the same time the junior home cooks will compete in the 2nd of the days heats.

1.30pm

Back on the main stage enjoy the talent of the Clair McDowell School of Irish Dancers.

The final of the days Junior Home Cook heats starts.

2.45pm

To conclude this years Ballymoney Show stick around for the Grand Prize winners parade.

Speaking about this years show a spokesperson gave this piece of advice.

“Pack the family into the car and make a big day out of it. You’ll find something to amuse all ages at this years show!”
